Last night a Crossfit video producer, Jay Vera, posted a video to the company's official Facebook page promoting hypoxic training and underwater breath-holding drills. This type of training is VERY dangerous and can lead to sudden underwater blackout WITH NO WARNING.  If an athlete participates in this type of training without proper precautions and extreme safety measures in place, they could very easily lose their life.  A shallow water blackout drowning is silent.  The swimmer simply sinks to the bottom and quietly passes away.  Watch the video below to see a lap swimmer  experience SWB.

If you are an athlete who believes that this will never happen to you, PLEASE take the time to read about these deaths that have happened just this month.  While we will always be unsure about the actual cause of death for world famous freediver Natalia Molchanova, both of these deaths are most likely due to the phenomenon that is shallow water blackout. Please, educate yourself and train safely.  Your life depends on it.
